Viewpoint Consulting Services: Business Process Optimisation

Viewpoint assists organisations optimise their business process performance through effective modelling, analysis, redesign and simulation.

Our Business Process Innovation Cycle (BPIC) methodology provides a framework for process optimisation and results in breakthrough reductions in process cycle time and cost while improving compliance and customer service.

The five phases of the BPIC are:

1. Build the As-Is Model

Building the As-Is Model leads to a thorough understanding of the business process being improved. It uncovers all the essential components and problems of the existing process and forms the baseline for improvement initiatives.

2. Analyse Requirements

Once the As-Is Model has been built, process customer and stakeholder requirements are elicited and best practice analysed. These are used as inputs into the redesign of the process.

3. Redesign the Process

Business process redesign applies improvement and innovation principles to the As-Is Model. The resulting To-Be Model describes the new, improved process. The initial To-Be Model is the starting point for further design enhancements and optimisation.

4. Simulate the Process

Process simulation is the key to business process optimisation. The design of the To-Be Model is tested during process simulation. This results in considerable cost and risk reduction as the process performance is iteratively enhanced using simulation software before it is implemented. During simulation, considerable detail is added to the To-Be Model to ensure it behaves like it will in the real world. By doing this, process performance can be measures in the simulation environment resulting in an optimum process design.

5. Implement the To-Be Model

The design that results from simulating the process is then confidently implemented. The innovated process can be automated directly from the To-be Model or it can be implemented in a non-automated environment.

Modelling and Simulation Techniques

We apply either the Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) method or the Integration Definition (IDEF0) process modelling method, depending on the client’s requirements. Both these modelling methods are in the public domain and can be used to simulate business processes.

Our tool of choice is iGrafx Process which enables the modelling and simulation of the process through all of the process innovation phases.

Areas of Experience

We have worked in the following areas: financial services, consumer goods manufacture, health services, government services, petroleum, chemicals and logistics industries.
